A collection of hand-crafted furniture and objects conceived and made by the Swedish designer Mia Lagerman, THEM OBJECTS explores new typologies based around classic references and a desire to question perceived truths.
Understated yet expressive, THEM OBJECTS play with proportions and materials, rigorous forms and organic details, to make something joyful and useful.
Mia Lagerman, Designer and Founder, THEM OBJECTS
Stockholm born and educated, Mia Lagerman has worked as a furniture and objects designer for three decades, combining production pieces with experimental artisanal projects. She lives and works in Copenhagen.
A graduate of Konstfack, the University of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm, Lagerman began her career with the innovative Swedish furniture company Blå Station. Moving to Denmark in 1993, she joined Studio Copenhagen, an external IKEA design studio. She was then a partner in the design studio Pelikan Copenhagen for almost ten years.
Since 2006 Lagerman has run her own studio creating a portfolio of original furniture and accessories for renowned European brands such as Fritz Hansen, Skagerak, Swedese, Blå Station, van Esch, Svedbergs, Icons of Denmark, Kristensen & Kristensen and IKEA.
She has won numerous design awards and accolades, including the furniture category in the German Design Awards in 2021 for her Sky chair, Red Dot award and Elle Interiors design prize as well as having several works acquired by the Danish Arts Foundation.
Chairman of the Cabinetmakers Autumn Exhibition (Snedkernes Efterårsudstilling) in Copenhagen for four years she is also a regular exhibitor at the annual design showcase. She has a Master’s in Design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
When freed of the constraints of industrial production she likes to break rules – testing conceptual frameworks and balancing a clean line against intuitive decoration.
THEM OBJECTS is the manifestation of this reflective exercise.
